Personal: Haymer is one of the few players returning to the Trojans’ team for his second and final year. Haymer was also named a team captain alongside fellow players Zach Boggs and CJ Miller. Haymer plans to major in Cybersecurity. In high school, he won two North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 2A Basketball Championships in 2016 and 2017. His nickname is “Money.”

Personal: Leftwich was born and raised in Fayetteville. He’s been playing basketball since he was 5 years old. His nickname? “Day Day.”

Personal: This is Harbison’s first year on the Trojan Men’s Team. He has been playing basketball since sixth grade. He believes there is always room to improve when it comes to basketball skills. He’s also know by the name “Smoove.” As a student-athlete, he’s studying business.

High School: Garner Magnet High School

Personal: This is Kunhs’ second and final year playing with the Men’s Basketball Team. He won a state championship while playing in high school and says that one of his great relatives has the most points scored in a high school game in North Carolina. Last year, Kuhns was recognizes at the Second Annual Trojan Athletics Banquet for being part of the All-Academic Team. He’s studying arts while at FTCC.

Personal: “Stretch,” as his friends call him, plans to study marine biology. His favorite basketball player is former Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns player Penny Hardaway, know for his height – six feet and seven inches. Lloyd said one of his favorite hobbies is buying shoes.

Personal: McWhite is the tallest player on this year’s team. He previously played for the South View Tigers. He’s studying sports management, goes by the nickname “Vern,” and likes to listen to music.

Personal: Lloyd is studying arts while in his first year with the Trojan Men’s team. He enjoys hanging out with friends when he’s not playing basketball. He was involved in three sports in high school: track, basketball, and football.

High School: Terry Sanford High School

Personal: Hughes is in his second year with the Trojan Men’s team and came on as a player in Spring 2018. He shined as an athlete during his freshmen year. He was named “Outstanding Freshman” and became a part of the “All-American Team,” being recognized for both achievements at the previous Trojan Athletic Awards Banquet. The National Junior College Athletic Association also recognized Hughes as a “student-athlete” for maintaining a 3.6 GPA or higher during the 2017-18 year.

Personal: Similar to some of his teammates, this is McDonald’s second season with the Men’s Basketball Team. He has been playing basketball since he was 10 years old. He goes by the nickname “$lim.”

Personal: Morgan comes from a small high school with a population of about 500 students. While on the basketball team, he helped lead his teammates to their first conference championship in 25 years. He was also named to the All-Conference Team earlier this year. Morgan is studying business.

Personal: Boggs is in his second and final year with the Trojan Men. He returns after an injury kept him off the court in the latter part of last year’s season. One of this life quotes is from the Bible, Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Boggs is one of the three team captains this year alongside returning players Josh Haymer and CJ Miller.

Stover credits his success with basketball so far by seeing everyone else, when he was younger, better at the sport than he was. He was also cut from the middle school team. He began taking basketball serious as a sport when he made the junior varsity team in ninth grade at Armstrong High School.

Brian Hurd

Coach Brian Hurd is in his third year overseeing the Trojan Men’s Basketball Team. He hails from Lee County and attended Central Carolina Community College. He was the associate head coach for men’s basketball at Central Carolina Community College for eight seasons where his duties included recruiting, player development, practice planning, and executing the day-to-day operations for the basketball program. 

Hurd takes pride in the relationships he has built with his student athletes, and he has helped several to further their academic and athletic careers under scholarships at various institutions. Hurd and his wife, Laura, have two children, Cadenze, 13, and Trey, 4.

Patrick Hair

Coach Hair was born and raised in Clinton, NC. He graduated from Lee Senior High School in Sanford NC and played at CCCC for 2 years. He has coached at Grace Christian High School in Sanford, NC before coming to join the coaching team at FTCC. He is in his third year coaching with the Trojan Men.

Coach Hair’s philosophy is to help his players become hardworking, productive, and goal oriented members of society. He believes that basketball gives players the opportunity to grow physically and spiritually every day. Hair’s coaching goals are to make student athletes become successful young men by working hard and giving their all every day, on and off the basketball court.

Hair also believes that successful coaching helps our student athletes reach their academic and athletic goals. Players learn that in order to be successful, they have to work hard, be disciplined, have an open mind, and to set obtainable goals each and every day.

Michael Crisp Mens Basketball Team Manager

Michael Crisp

Michael Crisp is in his first year with the Trojan Men as team manager. This is his second time working under Head Coach Brian Hurd. Crisp served as the men’s team manager at Central Carolina Community College under Hurd and Doug Connor. Crisp’s time with the sport goes back to high school where he was the men’s basketball team manager for three years under Coach Bill Boyette until 1994. Crisp also graduated in 2010 from CCCC with an associate’s degree in criminal justice, then working for more than six years as a detention officer for the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office. Crisp has a wife, Gretchen, and two stepchildren, Alan and Alex. 

Outside of basketball, he currently works for Harrington Industrial Plastics in Raleigh. Crisp said he looks forward to a “bright future” with FTCC.

Larry Pittman Mens Basketball Team Chaplain

Larry Pittman

Dr. Larry Pittman has served as the chaplain for the Trojan Men’s Basketball Team since their inaugural season in 2016. He’s also served as a chaplain for other local high school football and basketball teams through the years. Pittman previously served as chaplain at Central Carolina Community College when Brian Hurd served as the head coach for the men’s basketball team prior to his time at FTCC.

Outside of sports, Pittman has been a full-time vocational pastor for 20 years. He has served as the pastor at Broadway Baptist Church for nine years. His favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6.
